A Refreshing Stormy Waters Cocktail Recipe inspired by One Smart Witch – Book 2 of The Hollowbeck Paranormal Cozy Mysteries) by Amelia Ash and Kim M. Watt. Once you read this cocktail description you’ll want to shake one up for yourself!

“…I sighed and took another sip of my Stormy Waters, which tasted somehow of sunsets over distant seas when the fog’s coming up and there’s ice on the horizon. It made me shiver, but in a good way.”

“One Smart Witch” is book 2 in The Hollowbeck Paranormal Cozy Mysteries) by Amelia Ash and Kim M. Watt. This is a cozy fantasy series set in Hollowbeck, a magical town. It’s a very entertaining series where the mayor is a ghost and the police officer is a vampire. In book 1 of the series, Morgan, a librarian, finds herself in the magical town trying to help her brother, Ruiner (obviously a nickname😂.) Ruiner was turned into a talking cat!

The Hollowbeck Paranormal Cozy Mysterys, Book 2 finds Morgan and her still-a-cat brother, Ruiner in a Circus of Magic and Mayhem. Her brother, is being held as a murder suspect! “A life for a life must be paid, according to the circus staff.” Ruiner will either be a talking cat in a cage for the rest of his life, or sentenced to death. It could be a death sentance for Morgan and her brother so it’s up to Morgan, a magical grimoire, her familiar, some circus folks, and her friends from Hollowbeck to clear Ruiner’s name.

If you enjoyed T. Kingfisher’s “A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking,” I have a feeling you’ll like these books too. The Hollowbeck Paranormal Cozy Mysteries writing style is similar to Kingfisher’s. I read them out of order accidentally. I recommend you start with Witch Slap (The Hollowbeck Paranormal Cozy Mysteries Book 1.)

My inspiration for the Refreshing Stormy Waters Cocktail

After reading Morgan’s description in One Smart Witch on a super HOT day, I HAD to find a recipe. It sounded so refreshing! I found several recipes for a cocktail called a “dark ‘n stormy” online. A dark ‘n stormy is dark rum and ginger beer with a lime garnish. I don’t care for ginger beer so I came up with my own version of a “Stormy Waters.”

Stormy Waters Cocktail

Stormy Waters Cocktail

Compared to a Traditional Dark ‘n Stormy® (Visit Goslings.com/recipes for their trademarked cocktail) made with rum, ginger beer, and lime at about 195 kcal, my "lighter version" substitutes beer with ginger ale and uses half the rum. My "Stormy Waters Cocktail" is a slightly lighter version at 141 kcal. I use Appleton's spiced rum, fresh lime, and orange juice, and garnish with slices of lime, orange, and fresh ginger. Treat yourself by using a fancy glass, like my vintage stout glass, and a decorative swizzle stick.

Thanks! I’ve had the swizzle sticks since the nineties – “Vintage” Pier One 🤣
